Neapolitan Baroque – Ensemble Sanssouci
We warmly invite you to a concert by Ensemble Sanssouci devoted to the Baroque music of the Neapolitan school – one of the most influential musical centers of seventeenth and eighteenth century Europe.
At that time, Naples, under Spanish rule, emerged as an exceptional artistic hub, home to renowned conservatories and musical traditions that educated generations of outstanding composers and singers. The Neapolitan style is distinguished by its cantabile melodic lines, clear harmonic language, ornamentation, and remarkable emotional intensity.
The repertoire features works by the most important representatives of this tradition:
Francesco Provenzale, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Domenico Cimarosa, Domenico Sarro, Gian Francesco de Majo, Niccolò Jommelli,
as well as a composer closely associated with the Neapolitan idiom: Johann Adolph Hasse.
