Music of the Royal Vasa Court – Ensemble Sanssouci
We invite you to a concert devoted to the music that has resounded at one of the most magnificent European courts of the seventeenth century – the Vasa court in Warsaw. During the reigns of Sigismund III, Władysław IV, and John II Casimir, the Royal Chapel became one of the most highly esteemed ensembles of its time.
The programme features works by Polish and Italian composers associated with the court, including Pękiel, Mielczewski, Jarzębski, Merula, Anerio, Bertolusi, Scacchi, Osculati, Pacelli, and Valentini.
The style of this music combines Italian refinement and expressive intensity with the majesty of royal ceremonial, creating a form of Baroque rich in splendour, emotion, and virtuosity.
The concert will be performed by Ensemble Sanssouci, renowned for its vivid interpretations of early music and for its collaboration with leading Polish artists specialising in historically informed performance.
